Tri-City area voters preview for August 4 election: Time to decide on local millage proposals and who will advance to the November Election

Voters across the Tri-City area will head to the polls on Tuesday, August 4, to cast ballots in Michigan’s State Primary Election. While partisan races will appear on all ballots, local Tri-City communities will also be asked to decide on various ballot proposals that would renew existing millage to support a local community organization, public safety, schools, ambulance service and fire departments, and a conservation district.
Michigan voters to choose new governor in August Primary
For the first time since 2018, Michigan voters will select nominees for an open governor’s seat during the Tuesday, Aug. 4, primary election. Incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is unable to seek a third term because of Michigan’s constitutional term limits, making this the state’s first open gubernatorial race in eight years.
The governor serves a four-year term and currently earns an annual salary of $159,300. The office serves as Michigan’s chief executive, overseeing state agencies, signing or vetoing legislation, proposing the state budget, and responding to emergencies.
Voters will choose among candidates within their respective political parties to determine who advances to the November general election.
