Watervliet fall sports season gets underway

Watervliet fall sports are officially underway, and the community had plenty to cheer about during a busy opening week that included a youth football camp and the annual alumni soccer game. The youth football camp drew more than 80 participants, giving young Panthers a chance to rotate through skill stations led by junior varsity and varsity players before wrapping up with a fun game. For $30, campers received a T-shirt and took part in a spirited two-and-a-half-hour experience designed to introduce them to the game and Panther football tradition.
On Friday night, Aug. 14, the varsity boys soccer team hosted its alumni game under the lights. The matchup came down to a shootout, with the alumni team edging the current Panthers, 1-0. The Watervliet boys soccer team has their home opener Monday, Aug. 24, at 5 p.m. against Parchment.
