Cross teams away and running

The Panther cross-country teams opened the Watervliet fall sports season last week with a run at Bridgman. The girl’s team finished fourth, same as last year, at the 13-team Bridgman Invitational. The girls were ready for the early season challenge after just a week of real practice, with many of them competing in their first high school event. Senior Kimmy Romero (24:20) ran well and was 15th overall.

Three Panthers were bunched, with senior Gabby Wisdom (25:05) finishing 21st, freshman Payton Yeske (25:10) at 23rd, and senior Marissa Lowell (25:20) at 25th. Sophomore Mimi Feneley (26:55) completed the scoring positions at 35th place. Maria Cruz (27:55) kicked off her cross-country career in 40th place and just good enough to take home the final individual medal of the meet.
