Watervliet varsity boys soccer battles hard but falls short against No. 7 ranked Saugatuck

Watervliet boys soccer hosted No. 7-ranked Saugatuck Wednesday night Sept. 16 for a highly competitive matchup. The Panthers stayed organized defensively, patiently looking for opportunities to capitalize on mistakes. That approach paid off when JT Isbrecht forced an error and struck first for Watervliet, taking a 1-0 lead. Saugatuck answered just before halftime to even the match, but Watervliet continued to battle with strong energy and determination.

The Panthers held their own for much of the second half before fatigue began to set in. The Trailblazers took advantage of second-chance opportunities and eventually pulled away. Saugatuck won this one with a final of 6-1 but Coach Valentin Casiano was very proud of his team believing they can play with anybody. The team looks forward to getting back on track with their upcoming tournament at Bangor High School on Saturday, Sept. 26.
