Watervliet Township board discusses sewer proposals, KOHOE Properties, and fall dump passes

Two issues involving township procedures and property matters drew considerable discussion during the Watervliet Charter Township regular board meeting Monday, Sept. 21, including questions surrounding sewer relining proposals and the status of KOHOE Properties and residences along Harland Drive.

Attorney Jessica Fette was present to answer questions from the board regarding KOHOE Properties and the Harland Drive residences. The discussion lasted more than 30 minutes as board members sought clarification about the current status of permitting and land use matters involving the property.

According to Fette, KOHOE has applied to the state for permitting related to its proposed primitive campground. However, that state permit remains pending.

Fette also explained that, in an August letter, KOHOE had been instructed to apply for a special use permit for the primitive camping operation, as well as for the short-term rental use of Airbnb properties. To date, that permit has not been submitted yet.

The matter is currently tied up in an appeal process. Fette advised the board that the township must allow that appeal process to proceed.

The discussion did not result in a final determination regarding the property. Rather, Fette’s explanation indicated that the township’s next steps are dependent on the pending appeal and any determination that comes from that process.

Sewer relining proposals questioned

The board also revisited the township’s process for obtaining proposals for sewer relining work.
