What started the ugly sweater craze anyway?

Every third Friday of December people all over trade their winter wear for something more festive for National Ugly Sweater Day. Whether someone finds a hidden gem to wear, or they make their own, one thing’s for sure — this day will certainly have everyone shuttering!
