WILLIAM J. PORTER


William’s life began June 30, 1950, in South Haven, Michigan. William was a lifelong area resident. He was a gentle, kind, loving, caring soul. He worked for many years for Bosch as a set-up man. He enjoyed dancing and making wooden American flags in his spare time. You could also find William taking pride in caring for his lawn and tinkering on things. For relaxation he enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing computer games, working on models, reading especially Stephen King novels, watching horror movies, and playing Risk.

William leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory including: his wife and best friend of 27 years Barbara (Chieffo) Porter; three children, Tabitha (Carlos) Lourido, William Todd Porter, and Jessica (Brian) Cookman; two stepchildren, Eva (Matthew) Dommer and Doug Adams Jr.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

William died Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at home surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia (Drake) Porter, parents Clifford and Ella (Rourke) Porter, and three siblings, Jerry Porter, Mary Reames, and Susan Stegeman.

William’s life will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 at noon with a graveside service at Watervliet Cemetery. Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting William’s family with arrangements. You are invited to leave a message of comfort for William’s family at hutchinsfuneral.com.
