WILLIAN DONALD NICHOLS

William Donald Nichols, known as Don by friends and family, was born on May 6, 1927 in Booneville, Mississippi to Robert and Lina Nichols.

While working as a taxi driver in Booneville, Don met the love of his life, Idell Fredrick. The two wed on Dec. 21, 1946 and eventually moved to Coloma, to raise their son and three daughters. He worked as a supervisor for Michigan Fruit Canners until retirement. After retiring, he enjoyed spending warm winters with his bride at their second home in Corinth, Mississippi.

Don was an avid farmer and maintained bountiful gardens in the backyard even in the late years of his life. He took great pride in bringing homegrown fruits and vegetables to the table. He spoiled his kids and grandkids with his home-cooked southern meals, and they will all tell you that he made the best fried catfish, vegetable soup, chocolate cake and sweet tea. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren, and he never let them go hungry.

Don had a big heart and would never hesitate to lend a hand to a stranger. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church for much of his life. His calm and caring spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his sister Gladys and brother Fred; daughters, Chana (Robin) Kniebes and Diann (Bill) Pudell; daughter-in-law Ann Nichols; son-in-law Larry Darling; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Don passed on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021 at the age of 94.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Idell Nichols, his daughter Shelia Darling, his son Don Nichols Jr., and siblings Oliver, Ben, Edward, Howard, Luther, Pauleane, and Mary.

A private burial service will take place at Harris Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place in July. Online guestbook at www.duffieldpastrick.com.
