The second week of action in the Tri-City Record’s Armchair Quarterback Contest has been contested. As always, we continued the tradition of challenging our ‘superfans’ in some daunting gridiron matchups, as our knowledgeable fanatics looked to pick the winners of three high school and seven collegiate football games that appeared on our week two calendar. Now that games are beginning to encompass our lives on the weekends, it surely feels like fall is here for real!

Looking back at the final records from games last week, it appears that our diehards have awoken from their slumber. After a chaotic beginning to the ‘school year’, all six of our accomplished scholars passed their weekly examination, with each earning passing grades so far.

Recapping week two games, our local favorite college teams (Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Western Michigan) joined our local high school teams on the field. If what we saw is a sign of things to come, we could be looking at an enthralling and heart-pumping campaign until the final curtain comes down on the season. It’s safe to say that fans of certain teams were celebrating more than others, but we know that the tides of the season will change week to week.

When the final seconds counted down and the scores were made official, four of our armchair quarterbacks battled to equal 9-1 records, forcing us into the dreaded tiebreaker scenario to determine the podium and fourth-place finisher during the stretch. The week’s battle for top dog honors pits Bill Whitney, Greg Krell, Rodney Lynch, and RoxAnn Rodney-Isbrecht against each other. You’d think they sat together making their picks, as each lost the same collegiate contest.
