Coloma student-athletes in cross-country, volleyball earn All-Conference
As we mentioned in our previous edition of the Coloma Press Box, fall sports concluded during the early part of the month of November. Since we are currently in-between sports seasons (winter sports will begin next week with the start of boys basketball and bowling), we have decided to honor those student-athletes who wore the green and gold for the Comets / Lady Comets that achieved all-conference honors during the cross-country and volleyball seasons.
Beginning on the cross-country trail, while the Coloma ladies did not place either of their two team members on the all-conference list, the Coloma men were able to secure two spots on the Southwestern Athletic Conference all-conference team. Both Boden Genovese (who placed 1st, 4th, and 1st in the three conference jamborees) and Aiden Cripe (who placed 21st, 7th, and 14th in the three conference jamborees) were both able to earn first team all-conference this fall.
On the volleyball court, the Coloma ladies experienced quite a bit of success throughout the conference divisional season, which worked in their favor, because that is how the Southwestern Athletic Conference distributes their league all-conference selections. When the all-conference honors were released, three Lady Comets were dispersed at two different levels. Earning first team all-division honors was Maddy Hamilton, while Clara Kimmerly and Miryssa Nelson each received honorable mention all-division recognition.
While there was no boys soccer program this year for the Comets, fans may ask – what about the Coloma football team? Where are their all-conference honors? Well, the answer is simple – this season the Comets competed as an “independent” team, meaning they had no conference affiliation on the gridiron this year. Hence, they were ineligible to receive all-conference recognition.
The Coloma Press Box congratulates these fine student-athletes on their achievements this fall! Our attention will now turn to winter sports, which, as we mentioned earlier, will begin the week of Nov. 27. In next week’s column, readers will find a little more detail on the teams and their schedules looking ahead, so stay tuned.
But, for now, everyone should relax for the long holiday weekend and enjoy the blessings of being with their family and friends during these special days. May our readers all have a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday, no matter where they spend it!
As always, GO GREEN! GO GOLD!
