New energy, new chapter for Coloma Football
The Coloma Comets varsity football team may not have gotten the Homecoming victory they were hoping for Friday night, Sept. 25, but there were still signs of fight as the team entered a new chapter in its season.
Coloma fell to Schoolcraft 29-13 in its Homecoming matchup, dropping the Comets to 2-3 on the season.

Junior Kane Howell once again found ways to make his presence felt all over the field. Howell recorded another interception and piled up tackles defensively while also making an impact on offense. Late in the game, with Coloma in its final offensive possession and just 22 seconds remaining, Howell hauled in a reception and took the ball down to the 1-yard line.
On the next play, junior Brody Winnell punched it into the end zone for a Comet touchdown. Howell followed by converting the PAT.
For Winnell, it was another trip to the end zone after scoring Coloma’s lone touchdown the previous week against South Haven.
While the Homecoming loss was disappointing, the night also came during a period of change for the Coloma football program. Following changes to the coaching staff, the Comets are looking to turn the page and move forward with a fresh start.
