The Hartford varsity football team hosted Comstock on Friday, Oct. 9, for a conference game, looking to celebrate ‘Homecoming’ with a victory and return to the plus side of the .500 mark, against the Colts, who entered the night having not won a game since the third week of the 2022 season. When the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard after four quarters of heart-wrenching action on a special night, the Huskies’ season and playoff hopes were derailed by a tough loss, 36-28.

In the first quarter, the visiting side came out of the gates swinging, punching Hartford in the mouth with two touchdowns in the first three minutes. Comstock scored three plays on a 17-yard run (two-point conversion attempt failed) before recovering the ensuing onside kick in plus territory. The result would be another drive down the field that ended with a score on a 16-yard pass; after converting the two-point conversion, the Colts pushed their lead to two scores, 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Huskies flipped the script, storming back with a pair of touchdowns to even the game at halftime, 14-14. Both were rushing scores, the first coming thanks to JonJon Covington on a 6-yard run with 9:23 remaining on the clock. After a successful onside kick of their own, Hartford would return to the end zone a minute later on a 9-yard run by Ryan Huminsky. Both extra-point kicks off the foot of Sebastian Balli-Resendez split the uprights.
