TAKE A STAYCATION IN THE TRI-CITIES… Anne and I took a “staycation” the past week. Our kids and grandkids shared a house with us on beautiful Paw Paw Lake.

There are many rental places and recreational venues around the Tri-City area including parks, lakes, beaches, museums, restaurants, fruit stands, farm u-picks, and stores. Search your local chambers of commerce, and local newspapers online for contact information and ideas.

TRUMP ESCAPES ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT… Could you guess the news of the past couple weeks? Former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, narrowly missed being assassinated while speaking at a campaign rally, Saturday July 13. A sniper on a nearby rooftop fired a bullet at Trump that just barely grazed his ear. A spectator was killed and others were wounded. The sniper was killed by police.

President Joe Biden, the Democrat candidate, was diagnosed with COVID and was quarantined a week ago at his home in Delaware.

Added to the calls for his resignation following a disastrous debate against Trump, he resigned over the weekend as the Democratic candidate for president. Then he recommended his VP Kamala Harris as his best candidate for the presidency. By Monday, the stampede to nominate Kamala Harris for president was in full swing. Trump had been nominated the week before.

If nothing else, the churning of rhetoric and promises to the millions of voters make this one of the most exciting presidential campaigns since Nixon appointed Gerald Ford as Vice President and then resigned as president. Leaving Ford to lose to Jimmy Carter.
