AUGUST WAS A SIZZLER… The hottest longest month, perhaps for the whole year. But for the air conditioning in our homes and places of business there really was no place to go. It was hot in the woods, it was hot on the beaches, it was hot in the garages and barns. The fruits and vegetables shrivel down the vines and the trees and the limbs. My three peach trees had a lot of blossoms, the buds were green and healthy. Despite watering the trees, the peaches stopped growing in July. Except for the ones at the top of the trees, they grew to the size of a tennis ball. All the rest were the size of golf balls.
