Making time for big things

A pastor gave a lesson one Sunday on fiscal responsibility. He used a large jar and various quantities of large rocks, small rocks, pea gravel and sand. The large rocks represented things like food and shelter, while the sand represented frivolous luxuries. First, he filled the jar with the large rocks. Then he added the small rocks and gravel, and finally the sand. Everything fit, and the jar was filled to the top. Next, he repeated the exercise, only this time the pastor started with the sand and ended with the large rocks. By the time he got to the large rocks, they wouldn’t fit into the jar. The lesson was clear: if you devote too much time to the small things, you won’t have room in life for the big, most important things.
