In less than a month, one in every five Michigan restaurants will needlessly be put at risk of closure and the jobs of 50,000 hardworking Michiganders will be put on the line. Similar policies enacted in Washington, D.C., in 2023 led to the loss of more than 3,000 jobs despite having only about 7% of the population Michigan has. That doesn’t have to happen here. The Legislature needs to act now to prevent catastrophic damage to businesses throughout our state that barely survived the mandated COVID lockdowns and are still facing increased costs due to inflation.
