Olive L. Grady, 91, of Watervliet, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 at Caretel of Lakeland.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 902 Broad St., St. Joseph, with Pastor Marlo Fritzke officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. Olive was born in Melrose Park, IL to William and Norma (Gibbs) Grady. She attended schools in Berrien County and graduated from Benton Harbor High School and received her Bachelor of Art in Education from Michigan State University. Olive loved to learn and attended a number of other colleges including Benton Harbor Junior College (now LMC), The University of Quebec, Canada, and also took classes at Moody Bible College. She taught school for over 25 years mostly in Berrien County.
She enjoyed traveling in the USA and other countries. It took her a couple of times to do it, but she drove solo across the USA; one part in 1984 and the other in 1987. Besides teaching she served a short term with Lansing (MI) Christian School; Marine Medical Mission (BC Canada); CAM International Mission in Mexico and Link Care Mission (CA).
Olive spent years caring for family members and also worked in retail. In 1984 she served as City Clerk in Watervliet until 2006. She had a variety of interests and hobbies; a favorite activity was entertaining missionaries in her home. Olive also wrote columns for the Tri-City Record. She liked to quilt, crochet and cook. She also traveled to Dublin Ireland.
She was preceded by her parents and her sister Helen Louis Grady in 1954.
