The award-winning Pure Winds Woodwind Quintet returns by popular demand to the South Haven Performance Series on Friday, July 26.
The Lansing based ensemble first performed at the South Haven Series in 2021. The group promotes outside-of-the-concert-hall type musical experiences and strives to create conversations between performers and the audience.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will take place in the air conditioned First United Methodist Church, 429 Michigan Ave.
The performers — Dr. Bryan Guarnuccio (flute), Chris Wheeler (oboe), Dr. Erin Dowler (clarinet), Samuel Sidorowicz (horn), and Dr. Natalie Law (bassoon) — bring a fresh perspective to standard quintet repertoire while also performing new music.
The theme of their program in South Haven will be, “Timeless Tunes: 20s through the Centuries.” It will feature a variety of classical and popular music from the “Roaring” 1920s, as well as compositions ranging from the 1620s to the 2020s. Ensemble flutist, Bryan Guarnuccio also arranged several of the numbers for the quintet to round out the program.
In its 14-year history it is rare for the South Haven Series to invite artists to return for a concert so soon after their previous engagement, according to Series President Robert Copping. “We take pride in listening to our audiences as we strive to present concerts that feature music that embody a diversity of instruments and style,” said Copping.
Performances are provided thanks to the generous support of the South Haven Community Foundation, corporate sponsors, and individual donors. A modest $15 admission is charged. Students are always admitted free. Tickets are sold only on the evening of the concert.
