Watervliet Baseball honored with All-State player, coaching awards

In our previous edition of the Tri-City Record, we took time to recognize the achievements of Watervliet athletes who brought home all-conference recognition during the spring sports season. As the thoughts of the regular season fade away and the postseason reaches its completion, there are always other awards that are set to be given out. That was true on the baseball field, as four Panther players were recently honored by the state high school baseball association with all-state.

The Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA) released its Division 3 all-state team, and it was full of deserving Watervliet student-athletes. The Panther contingent was highlighted by Caleb Jewell, who was named to the Dream Team, which features the top players in each division. Jewell was also a member of the first-team all-state listing, joined by the Harasewicz brothers, Brayden and Nathan. Cael Morris also made an appearance as an honorable mention all-state recipient.

On Monday, June 15, at the annual MHSBCA East / West All-Star game at Comerica Park, more honors were bestowed upon Watervliet Baseball. Caleb Jewell was selected as a member of the all-star team from the west side of the state, but due to an injury sustained during the postseason, he couldn’t take the field, but still made an appearance to cheer on the team. Meanwhile, Coach Bobby Edelberg walked on the field and was presented with an MHSBCA Assistant Coach of the Year plaque, given to assistants who have dedicated at least ten years of experience at the high school level.

The Watervliet Press Box congratulates these student-athletes and assistant coach on their accomplishments this spring and being recognized statewide!
