Raven Ledesma, a senior at Hartford High School, and a member of the Hartford Lady Husky basketball team this winter, is the March 9, 2023 Tri-City Record Press Box Player of the Week.
Raven was nominated this week, because she had one of the best stretches of her career on the basketball court just recently. In the team’s final two games of the regular season, against White Pigeon and Centreville, she scored a total of 38 points in those contests and was the high scorer in each of those matchups. In the game against White Pigeon on Feb. 21, a 52-37 loss, she scored 14 points. However, she saved her best for last in the regular season finale against Centreville on Feb. 23, as she scored a career-high 24 points in a 62-44 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
In the game against the Lady Bulldogs, Raven hit six three pointers; which was just one short of matching a mark set by Krystin (Weberg) Rhinehart, who hit seven in one game during her tenure as a Lady Husky. In addition to her recent success, she also led the team in scoring against Bloomingdale on Jan. 20, when she scored 12 points in that contest. For the season, she has scored a total of 133 points; which gives her an average of just over six points per game.
In addition to basketball, Raven has also been a member of the volleyball, competitive cheerleading and softball teams. She was a senior co-captain for the volleyball team just this past fall. In addition to athletics, she excels academically, and is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, has been on the honor roll all four years (including highest honors during her sophomore, junior and senior years) and will be in the top ten of her graduating class later this spring. Raven is also the current Miss Hartford and will represent the community in the Miss Blossomtime pageant this April.
Upon graduating high school, Raven will continue her studies in college; where she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. She has been accepted to Grand Valley State University and plans to continue furthering her post-secondary education and apply for the graduate program for nurse practitioner. She’d also like to travel and see new destinations all over the world, as a travel nurse.
Congratulations on this great honor, Raven! We congratulate you on your achievements on the athletic courts and fields this year and look forward to what you and your teammates can accomplish the rest of the athletic year.
