Sports practices, regular season begins this week

Well, high school sports fans, it seems like the whisper of yesterday that we said farewell to the spring sports season, ending another year of athletic achievements around here. Now that the days of summer are wilting away, our sports columns are about to be rekindled – in a great way!

This week marks the official beginning of practice for high school sports, in the state of Michigan. The eerie sounds of athletic silence will be replaced by running shoes hitting the pavement by cross-country runners, or the clacking of shoulder pads by football players, or the sounds of a soccer ball or volleyball hitting the back of the net, or the floor, for a spike. While summer fun, relaxation and respite were needed, it’s that time of year for normalcy to return.
