Reminiscing with Pearl Playford

The name of W. W. Allen is familiar to many Watervliet residents and will long be remembered. He was an early day local resident, merchant and postmaster, and he can justly be ranked among self-made men of Watervliet. He was born August 28, 1836, in Stafford, Genesee County, New York. He was the oldest of the four children of Albert and Sophronia Allen. In 1837 his father came to Michigan and located at Jackson, where he remained about one year, then moved to Ohio where he passed away in 1844. His occupation had been that of a miller.
