The hard way: What Palisades teaches us about reliable energy

This past weekend, crews at the Palisades plant began lowering the first of 204 fuel assemblies into a reactor vessel that had sat empty since 2022. The work is quiet and procedural and looks like nothing from the road. It's also the moment Palisades became the first shuttered commercial nuclear plant in American history to begin its return to service.
