Watervliet Boys Basketball

The Watervliet varsity boys basketball team traveled to Delton Kellogg on Tuesday, Dec. 16, for a non-divisional conference game, looking to put a halt to a two-game skid in this battle of teams with the same mascot. It was a tough night on the court for our men, as they lost, 58-24.

138-POUND MATCHUP… In last week’s rivalry conference wrestling dual between Coloma and Watervliet, two female wrestlers, Nevaeh Gilson of the Comets and Sophie Wigent of the Panthers, battle for position on the mat during their 138-pound bout. The match would conclude in the first period, when Wigent got the fall in 1:07; but Coloma got the last laugh, winning the dual, 59-18. (TCR photo by Jerrod Birmele)

The Panthers (1-3) gave their best effort on the court, but they were never in control of their fate, as they were outscored in all four quarters. The “other” Panthers led after the opening eight minutes, 14-6, before using a 13-8 scoring run in the second quarter to extend their lead at halftime to 27-14. Watervliet clearly struggled in the second half, scoring a total of ten points, with Delton Kellogg winning the final two quarters, 31-10, closing out a disappointing evening.
