Watervliet Boys Basketball

The Watervliet varsity boys basketball team hosted Saugatuck on Wednesday, Jan. 28, for a non-divisional conference game, looking to return to the win column in a battle of teams with three combined victories. A tremendous second-half defensive effort would secure a win, 52-43.

The Panthers (3-10) battled through a tough first half, trailing at the break, but their defensive energy in the second half turned things around. The Trailblazers led after the opening eight minutes, 14-10, before the men in maroon and white cut into the deficit by a point in the second quarter, trailing 25-22 at the half. In the second half, Watervliet tightened the screws, outscoring Saugatuck, 17-10 in the third quarter and 13-8 in the fourth quarter, to grab a significant victory.

Kyle Domingo-Sturgeon was the leading scorer for the Panthers, netting 12 points in a winning effort, and was joined in double figures by Caleb Jewell (10 points).
