The Watervliet varsity baseball team hosted Coloma on Saturday, May 30, for an MHSAA Division 3 district semifinal game, looking to advance to another district championship game and break the hearts of the rival Comets, with whom they split in the regular season.

In this game, it went the full seven innings, with the Panthers, despite being the ‘visiting’ team, picking up the win, 8-1. Watervliet did most of their damage in the first three innings, jumping out to a 7-0 lead, with single runs in the top of the first and third innings, sandwiched around a five-spot in the top of the second inning. After scoring a run in the top of the sixth inning, the men had an 8-0 lead, with the only negative being that they could not finish the shutout.
