What do I say?

Hemingway, in a work titled “A War to End Wars,” describes a soldier recalling his practice of prayer. From when he was a boy, this soldier would pray for everyone he had met, which often took a long time. But when he was at war, he admitted there were some nights he could not remember his prayers. The weight of being at war, away from family, and facing the chance of death, meant that sometimes he didn’t know what to say. On those nights, he had to abandon his prayers and move on to something else.
