ELLEN C. BECKER

Ellen C. Becker, 97, of Coloma, passed away on July 13, 2019 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. A service celebrating Ellen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Coloma United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 19, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Burial will follow the service in Coloma Cemetery. Memorial donations in Ellen’s memory may be made to Coloma United Methodist Church or North Berrien Senior Center. Ellen was born June 5, 1922 in LaGrange, IL to C. Lambert and Ethel (Nelson) Walgren. After moving to Michigan, Ellen began working at Western Union when she met her husband Clyde through mutual friends. She worked alongside him on the family farm while raising their seven children. As her children were growing up, she was always involved in the PTO and also worked as a seamstress at Ollie’s and Landis Clothing in St. Joseph. In Ellen’s spare time, she enjoyed knitting and sewing as well as volunteering at the church and the senior center. She also enjoyed displaying her quilts at the Berrien County Youth Fair, winning many ribbons. Ellen is survived by her two daughters, Barb (Dan) Najacht of Coloma, Margaret (Thom) Phillipson of Kalamazoo; five sons, Bill (Peg) Becker of Jenison, MI, Rich (Toni) Becker of Buchanan, George Becker of Coloma, Peter Becker of Coloma and Tom Becker of Buchanan; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clyde in 2007 and her two brothers Carl and Richard Walgren.

FAY CAROLINE HOGUE

On September 25, 1920 a girl named Fay Caroline Hogue, was born to Ralph and Etta (Utter) Dobson. Fay married George Hogue on October 10, 1941. George passed away on Nov. 9, 1970. Fay passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac. Also preceding her in passing was a son, George Hogue; four sisters, Ruth Barker, Lois Stockwell, Pauline Rathbun, and Esther Heffner, and two brothers, Laurence Dobson and Kenneth Dobson.

Fay was formerly employed and retired from Du-Wel corporation in 1986 after 28 years of faithful service. She was a longtime member of the Keeler United Methodist Church, where she spent numerous days helping with funeral and all luncheons held at the church. She always enjoyed the times spent with her loving family. Fay will be remembered for her strength, hard work, and devotion to both her family and community. She was creative in every way, from the work in her amazing gardens to every stitch in her many quilts. Although she suffered many great losses in her own life, she remained the rock to all of those she loved. Fay will be greatly missed. Fay is survived by her children, Norman (Darlene) Hogue of Niles, Margaret (Danny) Smith of Three Rivers, Paul Hogue of Ann Arbor and Bonita (Marty) Bell of Coloma. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. A celebration of life service to honor Fay’s life will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford, with Pastor Stephanie Norton of the Hartford United Methodist Church officiating. Fay will be laid to rest by her husband in Keeler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Timbers of Cass County. RUBY MAXINE PARKER

On March 5, 1932 in the town of Bragg City Missouri, a little girl named Ruby Maxine Neal was born to Henry and Willie (Wallace) Neal. Ruby married Carol Parker on October 2, 1950 and together they enjoyed each other’s company for sixty-eight years. Ruby passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at her home in Hartford. Ruby was formerly employed at Rudy Manufacturing of Dowagiac, and E&S Enterprises of Hartford. She loved hooking up the camper and taking family vacations. Her family was her pride and joy. She also was known to gamble quite frequently at the casinos. As to Ruby’s wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. Memorials may be made to Caring Circle Hospice. Ruby is survived by her husband Carol; two sons, Mike (Debbie) Parker of Hartford and Mark (Christine) Parker of Watervliet; a daughter, Kimberly (JD) Conner of Deer Park, Texas; ten grandchildren, Justin Jonns, Joshua Jonns, Mike Parker Jr., Ben Chambers, Brad Parker, Andy Chambers, Jeremy Parker, Andrew Parker, Ashley Hauch and Alexa Parker. She is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Ruby was preceded in passing by a daughter, Debra Whipple in 2013; her parents; five sisters, Margie Green, Eddie Rhinehart, Ina Nelson, Millie Neal and Christine Neal and two brothers, Jim Paskel and Luther Neal.

LOUIS O. COLEMAN

Louis O. Coleman, 91, of Coloma Township died in his sleep on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at his home. Services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, at the Columbar-ium in Coloma Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Louis was born on Aug. 18, 1927 in Hornersville, MO to William and Lola Coleman. He was a veteran of the Air Corp in the U.S. Army during WWII. Louis married his wife, Grace, on June 27, 1953 and she preceded him in death on Apr. 20, 2015. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage. He was retired from Canonie Construction with over 55 years of employment where he was the mechanical foreman for the heavy equipment. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling around the country with his wife. Louis loved a good joke and was always teasing someone. He was a straight forward and honest individual who loved his family and his grandchildren. His family includes his children, Celeste Coleman of Hartford and Mark (Terry) Coleman of Coloma; his brother, Edwin Coleman of Sierra Vista, AZ; his grandchildren, Shang (Lori) Coleman, Joshua Imler, and Autumn (Marcial) Garcia; and his three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers.
