I pour the cold creamer into my hot coffee and watch the swirling white clouds mix. It looks chaotic, confusing. Yet I know that there are laws of thermodynamics that are being perfectly followed in the whole process. Every small section of that cup of coffee with its temperature gradients, varying densities, turbulences, and other determining factors, every section is following specific thermodynamic rules. It knows no other way. It is accountable to follow the rules, whether it “wants to” or not. So it is not chaos. It is predictable, and though confusing, it is actually orderly.
