The Watervliet varsity baseball team traveled to Kalamazoo on Wednesday, Apr. 8, for a non-conference single game against Kalamazoo Central, looking for a victory in a game they’ve scheduled recently to toughen their strength of schedule. The men would suffer defeat, 12-5.
Their lone game went the full intended distance, with the Panthers falling to stiff competition from the state’s highest-ranked division by enrollment. After falling behind 1-0 after one inning, Watervliet would plate three runs in the top of the second inning for the lead. After the Maroon Giants took a 5-3 lead after three innings, the men in maroon and white tied the game at 5 with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but were outscored 7-0 from there.
